Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will invite foreign investors to invest in the country’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) during his roadshow to the European Union, according to Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana.
The government aims to attract over 300 billion baht worth of investments in the EEC by investors from the roadshow.
The minister said the roadshow headed by the prime minister to Europe will take place late this month.
His itinerary will include the UK and France where he will be actively promoting investments in EEC, considered the most ambitious development project initiated by the current government.
Expectations are that no less than 300 billion baht in foreign investments will be received for the EEC this year, he said.
At present nine foreign investors have shown interest in the Smart City Project located within the EEC. This is a pilot project that showcases a high-tech metropolis equipped with modern communication and transportation infrastructure among others.
Earlier in the day the Italian ambassador to Thailand paid a courtesy call on the prime minister to officially bid farewell on the expiration of his term.
He told the prime minister that a number of Italian businesses had expressed their intention to invest in the EEC and a delegation of Italian investors will be arriving in Thailand early next year.
