The ex-husband of a local businesswoman who was murdered and burnt to ashes in the southern district of Hat Yai has surrendered to police after going into hiding for three days.

Krissada Maikhao turned himself in to police in Pak Payoon district of Phatthalung province  last night after he was suspected to have slain his ex-wife Ms Pinyada, a well-known businesswoman in Songkhla province, and then dumped her body outside a secluded place off Hat Yai.

Police said he later burnt her body with old car tyres while the unburnt skull was later smashed into small pieces and scattered around the bushes.

Krissada was later questioned by Royal Thai  Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Weerachai Songmetta Panchan.   The suspect however denied the murder charge.

According to police investigation, he had engaged in heated argument with his ex-wife on the night of May 23.

He later strangled her to death. He was quoted as admitting that he put her body under her Mercedes Benz’s back trunk and brought along used car and motorbike tyres, and a gallon of gasoline.

The suspect drove the car to a secluded field outside  Hat Yai town where he placed the body in the old tyres and then lit them on fire.

Police said he waited until the body was burnt to ashes and later smashed the unburnt skull to small pieces and scattered them around undergrowths in several areas to cover up the murder.

He later returned to his ex-wife’s house to clean the car in the morning.

The disappearance of the businesswoman prompted her sister to report to the police who later were alerted by villagers of a suspected murder scene where the tyres were burnt and with some remains of the burnt skeletons.

The victim’s sister earlier told police that Ms Pinyada had divorced with Krissada several years ago but they still lived in the same house.

Pol Gen Weerachai said police would escort the suspect to the court tomorrow for permission to extend his detention for further questioning if more people were involved in the murder.
