Anti-vaxxer films herself licking supermarket fridge door to ‘prove Covid isn’t a big deal | World | News

Jodie Meschuk, from Colorado, USA, is a self-proclaimed anti-vaxxer who has gone viral on social media after filming herself licking a fridge inside a supermarket to show that COVID-19 is not dangerous. Ms Meschuk posted the video on Instagram where she has more than 17,000 followers. The footage shows Ms Meschuk licking a number of items inside a supermarket, including a shopping cart, bags and the door handle of a beer fridge.

She also told her followers to “be free”, as the cases of the Delta variant continue to rise in the US.

On top of not fearing Covid, Ms Meschuk claimed in the past that she cured autism.

The anti-vaxxer has now deleted the video from Instagram, in which she tried to educate her followers about the spread of coronavirus.

The footage was captioned “Germs fortify your immune system. Exposure to germs builds defenses against asthma and allergies. Microbes help digestion”.

It is not clear if Ms Meschuk took the video down herself, or if Instagram removed it.

Her social media accounts state that she lives a “holistic lifestyle,” and provide information about quantum medicine.

Ms Meschuk deals with controversial issues such as vaccines, racism, religion and coronavirus.

She also wrote a book titled Autism Reimagined, where she allegedly explains how to ‘reverse the diagnosis’.

The news comes after it’s been reported that Covid hospitalisations have surged in the south US.

Health officials have urged Americans to get vaccinated as intensive care units near capacity in multiple locations.

Louisiana now leads the nation in new Covid cases as the Delta variant rips through a region with some of the lowest vaccination rates in the US.

Last Friday, the Louisiana department of health announced a daily increase of 6,116 positive Covid cases, with 2,421 people now hospitalised with the virus, including 277 on ventilators.

With just 37 percent of residents fully vaccinated, state data indicated that unvaccinated people accounted for 90 percent of hospitalisations in the state.

181 people died from the virus in Louisiana last week.

In neighbouring Mississippi, where only 35 percent of residents are fully vaccinated, Covid hospitalizations are also soaring.

There are currently 1,242 hospitalised Covid patients in the state, with 319 of those in the ICU, according to state health department data.

The rising numbers mean that, as of last Friday, there were only 42 adult ICU beds available in the state.

The state’s top health official warned last Thursday that the Delta variant was “sweeping across Mississippi like a tsunami”.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, 35.7 million cases have been recorded in the US and 616,000 Americans have died from the virus.
