Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will on Saturday (April 28) attends the the 32nd Asean Summit and chairs the 11th Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit in Singapore.
Lt Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak, deputy government spokesman, said the Asean Summit will be chaired by Singapore under the theme “Resilient and Innovative” which is aimed at strengthening the collective resilience of Asean, and promoting innovation in politics, economy, and socio-culture among member countries.
Singapore will also endorse establishment of an Asean Smart Cities Network (ASCN). Three pioneer smart cities will be identified to mobilize innovative Asean Community, he said.
Gen Prayut would propose Bangkok, Chon Buri and Phuket as Thailand’s smart cities for the Asean Smart Cities network.
The Prime Minister will deliver a statement to endorse resilient and innovative ASEAN for better livelihood of the Asean people without leaving anyone behind.
Three documents to be endorsed at the 32nd Asean Summit are:
- Asean Leaders’ Vision for a Resilient and Innovative Asean
- Concept Note on Asean Smart Cities Network
- Asean Leaders’ Statement on Cybersecurity Cooperation
Lt Gen Werachon said the historic meeting between the North and South Korean leaders on Friday (April 27) is expected to be raised at the Asean Summit as Asean leaders had been supporting peaceful solutions to the conflict in the Korean Peninsula.
Gen Prayut will also chair the 11th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT–GT) Summit which will be held to prepare for the celebration of IMT-GT’s 25th anniversary, and to expedite mobilization of high-priority projects; development plan for infrastructure connectivity; physical infrastructure, as well as to emphasize the significance of regulatory connectivity, and affirm cooperation in various aspects with development partners.
Leaders’ statement of IMT-GT will be endorsed at the meeting.
