Three officers removed after a fatal fall of a motorcyclist

Three police officers of Samrong Nua police station were ordered transferred out of the station today (April 27) following the death of a motorcyclist and the injury of his girlfriend allegedly by a police volunteer.

Pol Col Decho Sosuwanakul, superintendent of Samrong Nua police station, was moved to the operations centre of Region 1 Provincial Police Bureau while two other officers, Pol Lt-Col Surasak Meevirakul, the deputy superintendent of Samrong Nua police station, and Pol Lt-Col Traimit Wongpornpardit, the crime prevention and suppression inspector, were moved to the operations centre of Samut Prakan police.

The three officers were faulted by their superiors for their failure to keep close watch on the conduct of a police volunteer, 39-year old Thanatpong Tumpitak, who allegedly landed a kick on a motorcycle as the rider, 25-year Tanakorn Sichart, refused to stop for a search at a road block and tried to escape on April 25.

Thanakorn fell from his motorbike with his head smashing on the concrete road in Sukhumvit Soi 74 whereas the pillion rider, Ms Nattaya Kramsamrong, fell on the road and was injured.

Tanakorn was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The police volunteer was detained on charge of carelessness causing the death and injury to the other people.
