Officials of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) have uncovered irregularities in the use of fund meant for poor and destitute people in 60 centres for the protection of the destitute.
So far, the PACC has accepted cases involving 33 centres for further investigation.
PACC secretary-general Lt-Col Korntip Daroj said Thursday (April 26) that investigation was under way into suspected corruption in protection centre for the destitute in 13 provinces and the results of the probe was expected end of this month.
Regarding the 370 million baht fund for poor people in self-help cooperatives, centres for the development of the highlanders and the coordinating centre for destitute people in southern provinces, Lt-Col Korntip said PACC officials had probed the use of the fund estimated at 135 million baht by nine cooperatives.
Further investigation was conducted for fund usage involving two cooperatives – one in Udon Thani and the other in Chiang Mai’s San Kamphaeng district. Three cases involving Ubonrat dam cooperative in Khon Kaen, Huay Huang cooperative in Udon Thani and Ban Krut cooperative in Buri Ram were forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for investigation.
The PACC secretary-general said the most alleged irregularities concerned the handing out of fund to different occupational groups instead of just the poor people who were supposed to be the recipients of the fund.
