Nine celebrities promoting unlicensed and substandard skin care and food supplements under “Magic Skin” brand were summoned by police to clarify their roles early next month.
If found guilty of, they could face up to one-year in prison or 100,000 baht fine.
The nine celebrities are “Ma” Ornapha Krisadee, Ms Apinya Sakulcharoensuk or “Saipan”, Ms Pitchanart Sakakorn, or “May”, Ms Jessie Ward, Napapha Tantrakul, Ms Oraphan Dansiriwattanakul, Ms Ratchawin Wongwiriya, Ms Sakonrat Wora-urai, and Ms Nontaporn Tirawatanasuk or “Ying Yae”.
They were summoned to report to the police during 10.00am-13.00pm at the Crime Suppression Division on May 4-7.
According to Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta said these celebrities appeared in 10 video clips promoting Magic Skin products.
He said each received an average 6-digit number fee to present a product of Magic Skin brand.
He said 59 celebrities and net idols were paid to be presenters of the products, but evidence collected so far implicated only nine of them.
He said the police would not deal minor charges with these celebrities but would consider severer charges so that they should think more seriously of their social responsibility before promoting anything to the public.
He said so far initial interrogations showed most of them have denied of having intention to promote the products, but what they said were useful for police.
But they were all found guilty for violating the Cosmetics Act in exaggerating the product quality, the Food Act, the Computer Crime Act, and the Criminal Act for fraud, he said.
Penalties for violation ranged from 2 to 5 years in prison.
