Attempted murder charge filed against man who allegedly tortured girlfriend

Police have filed an additional charge of attempted murder against a young man who allegedly tortured his girlfriend and livestreamed his alleged acts in Facebook live.

On top of four other charges already filed against 26-year old Chaichana Sirichart which included illegal detention, drug abuse, assault and use of computer system in a way which shamed the other people, police said they had found several items which were suspected to be used by the suspect against the 21-year-old victim.

The seized items include two blood-stained knives, a broken handle of a broom, electric iron, a hair curler, and an electrical wire which was allegedly used to strangle the victim.

Police said the seized items were enough to warrant the charge of attempted murder against the suspect.

Mr Chaichana was today (April 24) escorted to the Criminal Court by the police who sought court’s permission to further detain him.

Mr Chaichana told a throng of reporters at the court that he was sorry for his acts.

“I’m sorry. Don’t behave like me,” he said.

Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta, the national deputy police chief, said the suspect suffered from paranoia believing that his girlfriend was cheating him.

He added that the suspect and his girlfriend have been seeing each other for eight months and, during the period, the suspect had beaten up the woman eight times and, each time, he would use drug first.

The victim is still being hospitalized at Nopparat Ratchathani hospital.  The hospital director, Dr Somboon Tosbovorn, said the victim suffered a broken nose, a broken little finger and several bruises and burn wounds on the body.
