“Scapegoated” police captain’s wife seek help from Aug San Suu Kyi

The wife of a police officer who told the court that the arrest of two Reuters reporters in November last year was a police setup has appealed for help from President Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, according to The Irrawaddy Online.

In a press conference in Mandalay on Sunday (April 22), Daw Tu also told the media that she and her family was evicted from the police housing unit on Saturday – one day after Police Captain Moe Yan Naing testified to the court as a prosecution witness.  He also revealed that the trap was masterminded by Pol Brig Gen Tin Ko Ko.

Insisting that Moe Yan Naing was a scapegoat, Dau Tu claimed that her husband didn’t give any documents to the two Reuters reporters.

Moe Yan Niang has been detained since last December for the interaction with the two reporters working on an investigation into the killing of 10 Rohingya Muslim men and boys in a village in Rakhine state.

“I don’t know where to go now,” she told the Irrawaddy reporter on Saturday.

She told the media on Sunday that her family had to rely on relatives to survive as her husband has not received any salary since being detained.

The eviction order went viral in the social media drawing police condemnation.  But Police spokesman Myo Thu Soe defended that the family had to leave because they had overstayed their tenancy since March.

After Moe Yan Niang’s recriminating testify against the police, the plaintiff’s lawyer has submitted a motion to the court seeking to have the police captain declared a “hostile witness”.
