The Criminal Court on Monday (April 23) freed two executives of Magic Skin Group after they posted 1.5 million baht as bail.
Wannapa Puangson, 34, the owner of the cosmetic company, and her husband and financial chief Korn, 37, were arrested by police for fraud after the products they sold were not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and were substandard.
They were later released on bail with condition that they are not allowed to leave the country unless prior permission from the court.
Their lawyer Kijja Ali-isho said the FDA has earlier ruled that the products of the group contained no hazardous chemicals.
He said what went wrong was that the substances in the product did not match those on the labels which the company was correcting them.
He believe his clients were the victims of smear campaign by business rivals.
Meanwhile, lawyer Ronnarong Kaeophet who provides legal consultancy for affected customers said he believed over 10,000 people comprising distributing agents, people hiring Magic Skin to produce products for them, and customers might be affected by the firm’s alleged fraudulent acts with damage estimated at over 500 million baht.
He said he would submit a second list of celebrities who were paid to review Magic Skin products to the police for action.
Earlier Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta said the police would summon 56 celebrities for interrogation.
Pol Gen Wirachai said the presenters could face legal action if what they presented was considered to convince the people to trust in the products despite the fact they were not approved by the FAD and that their qualities were exaggerated.
He warned celebrities to exercise more caution before accepting to be product presenters.
