Four provincial police chiefs removed for poor performances in traffic duties

The commissioner of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) has ordered the transfer of police commanders in four provinces to the Operation Centre after they performed poorly in traffic duties during the Songkran festival.

The four commanders were Pol Maj Gen Chairat Thipayachan, commander of Saraburi provincial police, Pol Maj Gen Tawai Buranarak, commander of Amnat Charoen provincial police, Pol Maj Gen Thiwa Bundamnern, commander of Bung Kan provincial police, and Pol Maj Gen Sant Phoraksa, commander of Phetchabun provincial police.

RTP spokesman Pol Col KrissanaPattanacharoen said the transfer order was signed on Thursday (April 19) by Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, the RTP commissioner.

All the four commanders were relinguished from their positions in the provinces and would be working in new assignments at the RTP Operation Centre, he said.

The spokesman said Pol Gen Chakthip was unhappy with their performances in traffic duties during the Songkran festival from April 11-17 when statistics showed that traffic accidents in these provinces remained high when compared with the same period last year.

According to the Interior Ministry’s Road Safety Center, death tolls and number of road accident in the four provinces during the seven dangerous days of Songkran are as follow:

Phetchabun: 13 deaths, 63 accidents
