NLA shoots down all 14 NBTC nominees

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Thursday (April 19) rejected all the 14 nominees for posts in the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.

The lawmakers spent about five hours debating on the qualifications of the nominees and finally voted 118:25 against all of them with 20 abstentions on the ground that their qualifications did not meet constitutional requirements.

The rejection of all the nominees means that the selection committee must start the selection process all over again.

The NLA also rejected the nomination of Mrs Poranee Leenutpong, vice president of the associate judges of Nonthaburi juvenile and family court, as the ombudsman after finding her not qualified for the post.

The selection committee will have to start a new round of selection all over again to find a suitable candidate for the post.

However, the lawmakers endorsed the nomination of Pol Maj-Gen Romsit Weeriyasan as the new secretary-general of the Anti-Money Laundering Office by 182:6 vote.
