A suspected Russian robber arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport

A Russian man was arrested today (Apr 14) at Suvarnabhumi international airport after Chon Buri police and immigration officials have launched a manhunt for a Russian who allegedly robbed almost one million baht in cash from a money exchange booth opposite the Ambassador Jom Thien hotel in Sattahip district of Chon Buri on Saturday morning.

From footage of the CCTV system installed at the money exchange kiosk, police identified the suspected lone robber as Nikolay Rybalov, 32.

Police said that the suspect arrived at the kiosk, pretending to exchange money with the female staff, 30-year old Ms Sunee Kaewyu. Then he started punching at her until she went unconscious in the kiosk and grabbed the money bag, containing almost one million baht, before speeding off in his motorcycle.

A police team, led by Pol Col Arthorn Chimthong, the superintendent of Na Jom Thien police, rushed to the scene of the robbery and found Ms Sunee inside the kiosk.

Pol Col Arthorn said that the victim sustained injuries on her face and still could not testify to the police.

Police found the suspected robber’s motorcycle parked inside a house in Dusit Lake 2 housing estate, Banglamung district. But the suspect was not there and was reported to have left in a car to an unknown destination.

Later, The suspect was arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport as he tried to leave the country. He will be escorted to Na Chom Thian police station in Chon Buri for more interrogation tomorrow.
