Thai women’s soccer team earns ticket to 2019 World Cup Final in France

The Thai national female soccer team won the ticket to the 2019 World Cup Final in France for the second running when they crushed the Philippines 3-1 in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Group A match in Jordan on Thursday.

The first goal came at about the 26th minute into the game when Thanikarn Dangda fired a shot from inside the penalty zone but the ball struck the hand of Philippine captain Tany Anniss and the Thai team was awarded a penalty kick.

Ms Kanchana Sung-ngern was given the job and she executed it expectedly with the ball into the left corner of the goal.

The second goal came in the second half and, at the 53rd miniute, Suchavadi Nilthamrong passed the ball to Kanchana Sung-ngern who slid the ball into the net.

Silawan Inta-mee scored the third goal from a free kick pass from the right side of the pitch at the 61st minute.

The Philippines fought fiercely and managed to score a goal from Jessi Sung during the additional time.

In the other match, China trounced Jordan 8-1 to become leader of Group A.

The triumph means that the Thai team will receive a 20-million baht incentive fund promised earlier by the team manager, Ms Nualphan Lamsam.
With one defeat to China, the Thai team finished second in Group A – with two wins against Jordan and the Philippines – to join group leader China in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup for the first time in 23 years.

The Thai team will meet winner of Group B while China will take on the runner-up of the group on April 17.
