Two local administrators of Sa Kaeo province have been arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of a business couple in Khlong Hat district in late January.
Sayan Chantha, 65, and her husband, Mr Pipat Tangpongthong, 71 were found dead with knife wounds in their house on Jan 30. The couple owned Sayan-Rong Klua market on the Thai-Cambodian border.
Watthana Nakhon district police yesterday (April 10) arrested the two Maksakorn brothers, Capt Thongtos Maksakorn, vice president of Sa Kaeo Provincial Administration Organisation, and Capt Suthep Marksakorn, who is Tambon Khlong Hat mayor.
Both were taken to Sa Kaeo provincial court for detention today (April 11). The court rejected the two suspects’ bail request and sent them to Sa Kaeo prison.
The two suspects were accused of involvement in the murder of Sayan and Pipat allegedly over a 10-million baht debt lent by Sayan.
Capt Thongtos, however, insisted that he was not involved in the murder and ready to prove his innocence in court.
So far, five suspects, including the two brothers, have been arrested whereas three other suspects who are Cambodian nationals are still at large and are believed hiding in Cambodia.
