Former Democrat Party leader Chuan Leekpai told Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha not to make blanket accusation against politicians that they are all bad.
Mr Chuan who is also former prime minister made the above remarks at the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the part at the party’s headquarter. The event which featured religious ceremonies was attended by many veteran party members.
Mr Chuan said he entered politics in 1969 and had gone through 15 general elections, adding that he cherishes democracy and love to be politician. Threrefore, throughout his political life, he would not allow anyone to look down on his career.
“Gen Prayut always says politicians are bad. I once told him in person that there are good and bad politicians just as there are good and bad military officers,” he said.
Several core members of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee who temporarily broke away from the party to lead mass protests against Yingluck Shinawatra administration four years go, also showed up with the exception of Mr Suthep Thaugsuban, the PDRC leader and former Democrat secretary-general.
Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said he was surprised that the party’s political ideology since the founding of the party 72 years ago which encompasses democracy, economics and decentralization has never changed and remains up to date despite the passing of time.
He said he had never seen any other parties which has durable political ideology like the Democrat party. He stressed that all party executives would do everything they could so the people could look up to them with expectations.
