CSD police hand over 30-million bath lottery case files to public prosecution

Written by Thailand News

The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) on Tuesday forwarded two case files related to the 30-million baht lottery dispute between retired police officer Pol Lt Charoon Wimoon and school teacher Preecha Kraikruan to the public prosecution for consideration.

The two case files were handed over to Mr Pitak Obsuwan, director-general of Public Prosecution, by Pol Maj-Gen Maitri Chimcherd, CSD commander, and Pol Maj-Gen Charn Wimonsri, deputy commissioner of Metropolitan Police Bureau.

One case file concerns Pol Lt Charoon who was accused by Preecha of stealing or misappropriating his five lottery tickets which won the 30-million baht first prize reward. The second case file concerns Preecha and Mrs Rattana Supathip, alias Jae Babin who was accused by Charoon of giving false statement about the lottery tickets in question.

However, the CSD police decided to drop the case against Pol Lt Charoon, but decided to press charges against Preecha and Mrs Rattana.

Citing widespread public interest in the lottery case, deputy spokesman of the Office of the Attorney-General Mr Tharum Chaleechan said the OAD decided to form an ad hoc to consider the two case files to determine whether the case would be proceeded to the court or dropped.

As for Charoon, Public Prosecution Department chief Pitak said if the prosecution agreed with the CSD police decision to drop the case against the retired police officer, its ruling and the case file would be submitted to the national police chief for consideration and if the national police chief agreed with the prosecution’s stance, then the case would be dropped.

But if the police chief has an opposing view, then the case against Charoon will be sent to the attorney-general for finalization, said Mr Pitak.

As for Preecha, he explained that the prosecution would consider whether the case against the school teacher and the lottery vendor was substantial enough or not, he said, adding that he could not make a decision for the time being.
