All schools, except in Samut Sakhon, expected to reopen on February 1st

Written by Thailand News

Thailand’s Education Minister Nuttapol Teepsuwan has announced that all schools and educational institutes under the ministry’s supervision will resume in-person classes on February 1st, with the exception of those in the coastal province of Samut Sakhon, where COVID-19 is still spreading.

Schools resuming in-person classes will be required to maintain safety standards strictly, as laid down by the Ministry of Public Health and the preventive measures imposed by relevant agencies under the Education Ministry.

Schools in Bangkok and its suburbs must limit each class to 25 students at most. If there are not enough classrooms, it is recommended that the school arranges alternate day class attendance.

Meanwhile, Dr. Saravuth Boonsook, deputy director-general of Health Department, said today that 71 under 18s have become infected since December 15th, compared to 207 between January 1st and December 14th last year.

Most of the cases during the first outbreak last year were arrivals from abroad, while most of the cases in this the new outbreak are being infected by other family members.
