Two car owners lodged complaints with Pan Thong district police in Chon Buri that their cars had been set on fire allegedly by the same suspect held in police custody for allegedly setting fire to seven cars in the district on Sunday night.
Pol Maj-Gen Nanthachart Suphamongkol, commander of Chon Buri police, told the media on Tuesday that a total of nine cars were set on fire allegedly by Mr Vasit Nanthiwachvibha, 29, who was originally suspected to be mentally deranged.
Acting on information gleaned from footages from CCTV showing a long-haired man pouring gasoline onto cars before setting them on fire, police tracked down the suspect to his house in Pan Thong district and made the arrest on Monday.
A Honda motorcycle which the suspect used to roam around to look for cars to be torched and a jerry can were seized from the house.
The suspect claimed that he was verbally abused by the car owners and decided to get back at them by burning their cars. He was however charged with arson.
Regarding compensation for damages, Pol Maj-Gen Nanthachart said the victims would have to take their cases to the court to demand the compensation.
