A taxi driver was arrested by police on Sunday after he was accused by a young woman of taking her to a motel as she fell asleep in the car from alcoholic drinks, sexually assaulting her and robbing her of 2,000 baht in cash.
The victim whose name was withheld told Phaholyothin police that she hailed the taxi in front of a night entertainment venue in Ratchapruek are, Nonthaburi, after having a party with friends.
Admitting that she felt tipsy as she ordered the cabbie to send her to her apartment in Huey Kwang district, she said she fell asleep in the car and only woke out to find out she was in a room with someone who immediately escaped. She found out later on that her money in the wallet, about 2,000 baht, were gone, and reported the incident to an assistant in the love hotel who, fortunately, jotted down the license plate of the taxi.
The victim later went to Phahonyothin police station to file a complaint.
With the license plate number, police managed to track down the cabbie, identified as Adirek Lertlop, who was arrested and charged with sexual assault and robbery.
Adirek, however, denied he sexually assaulted the woman and claimed that he took her to the love hotel because she was drunk.
