Officials from the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) on Friday (March 23) searched the house of a senior official of the Education Ministry who allegedly admitted that she had embezzled more than 100 million baht from the Sema Pattana Cheewit fund meant for poor students during the past ten years from 2007-2017.
The officials spent about three hours in the house of Mrs Rojana Sinthee, a C-8 official of Bureau of Educational Activity Promotion, on Songprapha road in Bangkok’s Don Mueang area, looking for documents related to the fund disbursement.
A big pile of documents kept in the house and car, including a computer hard disk found in the house were seized and taken back to the PACC office for further scrutiny.
The panel investigating the alleged fund embezzlement has reportedly discovered that, besides Mrs Rojana, several other officials were involved in the alleged plundering of the Sema Pattana Cheewit fund intended for poor students.
The amount of fund embezzled was originally estimated at 88 million baht has now soared to about 118 million baht for the past ten years.
An informed source said that the PACC’s probe team would summon all people concerned, including officials of the Education Ministry, schools and students who had applied for financial support of scholarships from the Fund for questioning to find out the extent of the embezzlement and how many people were affected.
