Additional forensic evidence concerning with the illegal hunting case against Italian-Thai Development Plc boss Premchai Karnasuta will be submitted to Pol Gen Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul, the deputy national police chief, on Monday, said Dr Kanita Ouitavorn, chief of the wildlife forensic science unit of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conversation.
She told Thai PBS Online that she had to release her forensic findings in the social media in order to clarify to the public that the wildlife forensic science unit performed it duty up to the required standard and to find forensic evidence to back up criminal case against wildlife.
She said that latest forensic tests of the DNA, blood trace on the ground and on tree leaves taken from the crime scene in Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary belong to the same black panther killed allegedly by Premchai’s hunting party as well as the meat found at the scene whose forensic report was already submitted to the police.
She explained that a piece of meat alone could not prove for sure that it came from the same black panther as it could be argued that it came from other animal, but when the forensic finding about the meat was put together with other evidences such as the DNA on the hunting knife, the chopping knife and the cutting board, they would become a credible information that could be explained before the court during the trial.
Besides the evidence concerning the black panther, Dr Kanita said that her unit also conducted a re-examination of the remains a wild fowl which was proven to be a Lophura leucomelanos, a protected species, which was also killed allegedly by the same hunting party.
