Local government authorities have blamed the contractor for the collapse of a bridge linking two buidings in the compound of Trat Provincial Administration Organization that injured 15 workers on Thursday (March 15).

Authorities from relevant local government agencies held a meeting on Friday to assess the damage of the 5-metre wide and  215-metre long bridge which linked  the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) exhibition centre with the auditorium at Trat PAO in Muang district.

After almost two hours of meeting, they concluded that the collapse was caused by the carelessness of the contractor.

Trat provincial town planning and civil engineer Maitree Sappasin said after questioning all witnesses and relevant people, that it was the fault of the contractor for filling concrete at the beams and at the joint areas between the bridge and the buildings too soon.

Besides, the contractor used wrong type of scaffoldings in building the bridge, he said.

Trat PAO deputy president Prasong Chairaj who supervised the construction of the 13-million-baht bridge project said the contractor had to remove the debris and to reconstruct it under the same construction agreement.

Mr Prasong said the contractor has to abide by the contract to finish the construction by March 26, or else the company would face fine for the delay.

He also said all the 15 injured workers are now taken care of by the social security and welfare office for compensation under the law.
