A man turned himself in to Huey Kwang station police in Bangkok on Wednesday night for kicking and punching a 82-year-old scrap vendor unconscious.
Narathorn Sodtiyang, 21, showed up at the police station last night to confess to Pol Col Kampol Ratanaprateep, superintendent of Huey Kwang police, that he was the person seen on a video clip kicking and punching an old scrap vendor on a four wheel bicycle.
The old vendor was identified as a 82 year-old Charoon Meephan
Narathon admitted that he assaulted the old man out of anger and would pay for his medical bills and compensation.
He said he was also ready to apologize the old man.
Police later detained him for serious body assault under Article 295 of the Criminal Code, and would seek permission from the court for extended detention pending prosecution.
The clip posted by “แหม่มโพธิ์ดำ” on Facebook went viral on the social media after it showed a teenger riding on a motorcycle falling down to the ground after side hitting the vendor’s four wheel bicycle loaded with recycled materials.
The poster said the teenager was using a mobile phone while riding in his motorcycle.
The teenger was seen chasing the vendor and when catching up with him, kicking and punching him unconscious to the ground.
The clip was widely shared with most viewers calling the police to hunt and bring him for maximum penalties allowable by laws.
The incident happened in Soi Chanmuang Yaek 2 on Prachasongkroh road in Din Daeng.
The old man was declared out of danger after he was rushed to nearby hospital, and later recovered from fainting.
