Illegal hunting case against ITD boss expected to be received by the prosecutor today

Police have wrapped up the illegal hunting case against Italian-Thai Development Pol boss Premchai Karnasuta and three members of his hunting party to be submitted to the Thong Phaphum district prosecutor tentatively this afternoon.

The deputy national police chief, Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul, together with Pol Maj-Gen Chayaphol Chatchaidej and Pol Maj-Gen Sombat Militthachinda, deputy commissioners of Central Investigation Bureau and First Region Provincial Police Bureau respectively, travelled to Thong Phaphum district police station to check the final investigation report of the case which was wrapped up by police inquiry officers of Thong Phaphum district police station.

Pol Gen Srivara told the media that the case file was complete with sufficient evidence to proceed with the case to the prosecutor.

Mr Premchai and three other members of the hunting party which included his aide, a hunting guide and a female cook face nine counts of charge, including illegal hunting of protected wildlife species in Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary, illegal possession of carcass of protected species and carrying firearms into the game reserve.

The deputy police chief said that the report from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation regarding the forensic examination of animal carcasses and other material evidence such as knives and cutting board was already incorporated with the police case file.

An informed police source told the media at Thong Phaphum police station that the case file was expected to be submitted to the district prosecutor late this afternoon.
