The cabinet on Tuesday (Mar 13) decided to waive toll fees of motorways during April 11-18 to enable Songkran revelers to return to their home provinces or to tourist destinations to celebrate the Songkran festival.
Starting on midnight of April 11 until midnight of April 18, toll fees for motorists using Motorway No 7 between Bangkok and Pattaya, No 8 between Bang Pa-in and Bang Phli and Burapavithi expressway between Bang Na and Chon Buri will be waived.
The Ministry of Transport estimated that about 15 million people would travel during the 8-day festive period.
The ministry has also sought cooperation from operators of Blue train line between Hua Lamphong and Taopoon and Purple train line between Taopoon and Bang Yai, Airport Link as well as city bus service to waive train fare for elderly people who are 60 years old and upward on Songkran Day on April 13.
