Suvarnabhumi airport security guard arrested for theft

A security guard at Suvarnabhumi International Airport was arrested  for stealing cash from the handbag of a Chinese passenger.

The female guard employed by a private company which was awarded concession from the Airports of Thailand to handle ground security at the airport was identified as Ms Busakorn Somkwamdee.

The guard was caught by the security camera at the airport to steal 4,000 yuan in cash or 19,800 baht as she was checking the handbag of a Chinese tourist at the security checkpoint.

She admitted to steal the money but said it was her first time theft and did it with short temper.

But airport deputy director Kittipong Kittikachorn said authorities didn’t trust her word as she acted professionally and knew how to avoid the cameras.

He ordered authorities to look into recent video footages to see whether she had stolen the passengers’ valuables during the security checks.

Moreover the airport authorities have notified the security company to improve screening of security guards with warning that repeated thefts by its guards could result in losing its concession contract in the future.

He said the airport authorities have coordinated with the airline to inform the affected passenger about the theft and have recovered her money so she could reclaim her money.
