A drug suspect who escaped arrest during a police raid on a Bangkok- Sungai Kolok train at Ban Pong railway station in Ractchaburi last month was arrested yesterday in Tha Utane district of Nakhon Phanom province.
Suriyon Buntiem, 31, was apprehended by local and narcotics suppression police, after he returned from Lais to visit his mother.
He was wanted by narcotics suppression police after they and railway police searched a Bangkok-Sungai Kolok train for drugs while it was on the way from Ban Pong to Hua Hin railway station on February 6.
The train was destined for Hat Yai in the South.
Three identified as Visarut Trachai, 23, Poltawat Mala, 20, and Chakrapachara Pumpuang, 27 were arrested but Suriyon managed to run away.
The four suspects jumped off the train while it was at Ban Pong station.
Their escape from the train forced the police to conduct thorough search of the 18 cars of the train when it arrived at Hua Hin.
The search found nine abandoned baggages with 250 kilos of Ice hidden inside.
Upon arrest yesterday, Suriyon admitted to drug trafficking and also implicated a mastermind in the drug trafficking.
He said he fled to Laos for hiding but returned a month later after he felt the case had been forgotten .
Narcotics suppression police said they were seeking cooperation from the office of Anti Money Laundering to seize the assets of the drug smuggling gang and bring all of them for trial.
