Chiang Mai provincial administration will step up publicity campaign to warn the residents against worsening air quality in the province after the levels of PM10 and PM2.5 fine particulate matters exceeded standard levels for more than a week.
Chiang Mai governor Pawin Chamniprasart admitted that most residents were not aware of the latest air quality report from the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and, hence, the need of publicity campaign.
According to the PCD, the average PM2.5 particulate matter in the air on Friday (March 9) was measured by the monitoring stations in Tambon Sriphum and Tambon Chang Phuek of Muang district at 98.98 microgramme/cubic metre and 93.48 μg/cu m respectively, against the standard level of 50 microgramme/cubic metre.
The PCD’s air quality monitoring website reported that the worsening air quality in Chiang Mai has been going on since late February. During March 5-9, the PM2.5 fine particulate matter was measured at between 65-101 microgramme/cubic metre.
PM10 particulate matter reading in Lampang, Chiang Mai and Tak was also beyond the standard level.
PM2.5 level measured at an air quality monitoring station in Chiang Mai’s Muang district between March 5 to 9.
