The Royal Forest Department (RFD) is determined to reclaim a land plot at Khao Kho district, Phetchabun province, which was originally allocated for a defence volunteer who fought against communist insurgents three decades ago but is now being developed into a huge mountainous resort.
Athapol Charoenshunsa, deputy director-general of the RFD and Col Pongpetch Katesupa, chief of the operations centre of the Internal Security Operations Command led a team of forestry, military and local officials inspected the construction site of the 4-storey resort on Wednesday (March 7).
Mr Athapol said that the land plot in question used to be a forest land before the RFD allocated the land to the Army to distribute to defence volunteers, who would received Ror Or Sor land occupation document.
Ror Or Sor land plots could not be legally sold, but could be inherited by the next of kin of the volunteer.
The 4-storey resort situated on a Ror Or Sor land which belongs to Mr La-or Jinjaitrongใ
Mr La-or told officers that about three years ago, someone approached his daughter and asked to make use of the land plot to build a learning centre which has actually turned out to be resort buildings.
The RFD earlier filed land encroachment charges against the resort developer, but the public prosecutor refused to proceed with the case against the resort developer, claiming insufficient evidence.
Twenty-seven other cases of similar nature were also not proceeded to the court by the prosecutor for the same reason.
However, Mr Athapol said the department would find more evidence to back up its case to the prosecutor to reclaim the land from the developer, noting that this is an important case that should serve an example.
