Written by Thailand News

A complaint was lodged with the economic crime police on Tuesday (Feb 6) by the publisher of book, titled Buppae Sannivas, against a Facebook page owner who uploaded the entire book on the page in violation of the copyright of the publisher.

Ms Kaweeya Naowaprateep, executive editor of Happy Banana printing house which published the book who lodged the complaint of copyright infringement said she wanted the case to set an example for individuals who plagiarized the literary works of the other people to enrich themselves.

Regarding the compensation to be demanded from the copycat who also offered his ID line for anyone who wanted to download the book, Ms Kaweeya said she would consult with the author of the book first.

However, her lawyer estimated that the compensation would roughly amount to the price of the book multiplied by twice of the number of shares in the Facebook page which, for the time being, has risen to 60,000 shares.

Meanwhile, Ms Chanyawee Somprida, the writer of the book, announced via her Facebook page that she would the copyright offender to court. For the time being, she said she would allow her lawyer and her publisher to carry on with their legal action.

Captain Somsak Khaoprasit, the permanent secretary for digital economy and society, said the ministry could not intervene yet as no complaint was lodged with the ministry.

Anyhow, he said the ministry would closely follow up the case.
