Huay Kwang police yesterday (Mar 3) have caught a man who allegedly robbed a blind man of 79,000 baht in cash and a cellphone near the entrance of the Rama IX station of the underground train on February 22.
The suspect was identified by police as 49-year old Seni.
Pol Col Kamphol Rattanaprateep, superintendent of Huay Kwang police, said Saturday that, after having received a complaint from the robbery victim, 27-year old Mr Korakot Papakki, police checked all the CCTV system at the crime scene and surrounding areas.
They found in one of the footages a man who often seen strolling at and around the Rama IX underground train station in a suspicious manner and made the arrest at the same spot and, subsequently, escorted him to his apartment room in Soi Prachasongkroh 24, where they found the stolen items, including the cash and the cellphone.
Mr Korakot was later notified to get back his lost items at Huay Kwang police station. He told the media that the 79,000 baht in cash were his savings for the past two years from donations he received from his singing on sidewalks.
He said that, on February 22, he withdrew the money from his bank account in order to buy a new guitar which he planned to use for his street performance.
