School teacher Preecha to be probed by teachers council’s ethics panel

The Teachers Council of Thailand, or Khurusapha, will set up an ethics panel to investigate Kanchanaburi school teacher Preecha Kraikruan following his arrest by police in connection with the 30-million lottery case.

Khurusapha secretary-general Somsak Dolprasert said Friday (March 2) that, despite Mr Preecha’s arrest, the school teacher had not been faulted for committing gross disciplinary violation which would result to the withdrawal or suspension of his professional practice licence.

However, he noted that Mr Preecha taught Buddhism at school, but was involved with betting on lottery tickets which was regarded as improper and might violate teacher ethics.

Hence, the fact-finding panel would be set up to determine whether Mr Preecha had violated the teacher ethics or not, said Mr Somsak.

He added that if the school teacher was faulted by the court as charged by the police, he would face disciplinary action whose penalties range from warning, suspension of teacher’s professional practice license to withdrawal of the license.

He explained that immediate suspension of license would be invoked only in case of gross disciplinary violations which include drug abuse, human trafficking, sexual offence or corruption.
