LERDSILA EXPECTING DANGEROUS BATTLE FOR TITLE AT LION FIGHT 40
As smooth as things are going for Lerdsila with nearly 200 wins under his belt, there’s always someone out there in the high grass waiting to pounce.
One of the most dominant Muay Thai competitors of all time, Lerdsila makes his hotly anticipated return to Lion Fight on Saturday, February 3rd when he goes after the coveted the world lightweight title. The assumption could be made that Lerdsila doesn’t take even a first, let alone a second, glace at an upcoming opponent. In part that’s true because has been and remains a near-perfect fighter. That said, however, his rival for the Lion Fight belt, New Zealand’s Alexi Serepisos, did cause the Thai legend to stop and take notice.
Although an original matchup under consideration would have had Lerdsila (194-31-5) take on fellow Thai with a lofty career record, the clash with Serepisos garnered much more attention from the man known throughout the world as “Mr. Lightning.”
“Alexi is a harder fighter and this will make for a much better fight,” said Lerdsila from his Phuket Top Team camp.
“I’m excited to fight a young fighter who I believe is very dangerous. The better the opponent, the better my performance will be.”
That’s high praise for the Kiwi, who will be making his Lion Fight debut, stepping right into a title bout against one of the world’s very best. Both will be out to claim the organization’s crown in what is sure to be an exciting showdown at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Lerdsila, who made his first appearance inside the Lion Fight ring last summer and picked up a knockout victory in the second round, is a fighter who prides himself in entertaining the crowds. Unlike many of his Thai counterparts, he is a showman on top of being an elite athlete. His bright smile brings people in, and his electrifying skills seal the deal on his popularity.
“I always try to put on a show,” said Lerdsila, who boasts a 100-fight winning streak during his career and won all five of his encounters last year.
“I like to make it a priority that the crowd and the fans get an exciting event to watch. It’s always exciting to get the love I get when I fight in America.”
With 200 career wins on the horizon to mention an intense training regimen and traveling throughout the world for bouts, Lerdsila realizes the end of his illustrious career is coming in the not-too-distance future. But his passion for the fight game plus his spectacular conditioning, there’s still a lot left in his tank. He is driven further by the fact that the Lion Fight title is there for the taking.
“It would be huge to win the Lion Fight title,” he said. “One thing I always wanted to do was show my Muay Thai skills on a truly international level and now I have that opportunity with Lion Fight.
“I believe I have at least two more years of being able to compete with absolutely anyone in the world. I understand that a career has to end some time, but right now, my form is as good as ever. And the love and feedback from fans is always what motivates me.”
The Lerdsila-Serepisos clash is the co-main event of Lion Fight 40 with the bill topped by another world title bout. Cruiserweight world champion Chip “The Surgeon” Moraza-Pollard (6-0) puts his Lion Fight crown on the line for the second time when he faces New Zealand’s Slava “Scarface” Alexeichik (30-8). The Lion Fight 40 card is also highlighted by bouts featuring a number of the company’s well-known standouts including Brett Hlavacek, Elijah Clarke, Steve Walker, and Julio Pena.
Tickets for Lion Fight 40 are available for all fighters as well as by going to www.foxwoods.com/Lion-Fight.
