Written by Thailand News

A Rohingya refugee boy runs at Kutupalong camp in Ukhia, Bangladesh last week.

Packed with winds measuring 195kph, Cyclone Amphan is moving through the upper part of the Bay of Bengal towards Bangladesh at a speed of 10kph. This will bring heavy rain to Thailand’s southwestern coast from today until Friday.

In its first announcement about Cyclone Amphan, issued today, the Meteorological Department warned people in northern, southern coastal and western provinces to brace for heavy and continuous rain.

The department also warned of strong winds and heavy going in the Andaman Sea, from Phuket northward, with two-metre waves or higher in areas with thunderstorms.  Small boats are advised to remain ashore.

Updates on cyclone-related weather conditions are available via the department’s website or by calling the 1182 hotline around the clock.
