A man, who claimed to have been trapped in a drain in Bangkok’s Phaya Thai area for four days, was rescued today.
A motorist, who happened to park near a manhole cover, heard calls for help from below and alerted the police. An emergency team soon arrived at the scene, but they could not remove the manhole cover.
They told the trapped man to move through the drain to another manhole about ten metres away. That access cover was removed without difficulty and the man was pulled out of the drain through the manhole.
Police said that the man, identified as Yossakorn Namsai, a native of Chaiyaphum province, claimed that someone had tried to abduct him, so he hid in the drain.
Doubting his claim, police checked his criminal record, which was clean.
The man was taken to a hospital for a check-up and treatment.
