Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said today that he entered politics not because he aspired to become prime minister, but to improve the quality of life of the Thai people.

For the remaining three years of the current administration, he said his government will do its utmost to achieve the goals it set out at the beginning, provided that all parties concerned are determined, unite and understand one another, adding that the road ahead will be smoother.

Since assuming office less than a year ago, he said the government has been working hard to address multiple problems. These include the flooding in the south and northeast, the southern insurgency, the price reductions of agricultural produce, such as for sugarcane and rubber, marriage equality, the freedoms and liberties of the people, improvement of infrastructure projects, informal debt and illegal narcotics.

Srettha was speaking at a special conference hosted at his Pheu Thai headquarters, summarizing his government’s performance since taking office in September last year.

Even though some of these problems are yet to be resolved, such as informal debt and illegal narcotics, the prime minister said that his government is determined to continue its efforts to achieve the objectives during the remainder of its term in office.

Regarding the Pheu Thai party, Srettha said he has been working with the party for more than a year and has become fully aware of the problems confronted by the country during his field trips with party members.

He claims that the Pheu Thai party leader, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the executive committee and all its MPs are committed to working for the good of the people as priority and that the party’s policies reflect its intentions.
