The Rug-Weavers: Kerala, India

With the red carpet the first clue to the annual party’s theme, the Met Gala’s steps are almost as notable as its guests. This year, a cream carpet with a serpentine line of red and blue swirls nodded to the event’s title, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. The carpet was the work of husband-and-wife team Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas of Neytt studio in Alleppey. “We create rugs that convey a message through the design,” says Santhosh, who counts Ralph Lauren and Soho House Mumbai as clients. The Met commissioned a bespoke rug crafted from sisal, a durable fibre that’s a signature for the duo.

PETER DUPONT AND BREANNA BOXFrederik Lentz Andersen

The glass-blowers: New York, USA

Film-maker, actor and now glass-blower Breanna Box launched Home in Heven in 2020 with her partner, model Peter Dupont, making colourful, cool-kitsch products including Yoda sculptures, bobbled decanters and tentacled lighting for Louis Poulsen. Their breakout moment came via a DM from Sébastien Meyer, cofounder of Parisian brand Coperni, which led to the devil-horned Swipe bag: an instant Instagram sensation. “We already wanted to make bags, so the timing was divine,” says Dupont “It’s a very traditional craft. The trick is to work out how to be playful.”
