7. Jack & Boule on the Southbank
After a summer of ball-throwing on the Southbank, Jack & Boule is back for a festive edition. Sip on warming tipples and enjoy lip-smacking flavours from Rico Burrito or Jimmy’s Burgers before turning your hand to a game or two of boule. Teams of up to six are welcome on the eight courts, and sessions last 55 minutes. On weekends, bottomless brunch includes two hours of beer or prosecco and food from one of the stalls for £30 per person.

8. Pop-up ice skating rinks
Take to the ice on one of the capital’s pop-up ice skating rinks this winter as old favourites return and new sites spring up. Move away from the capital and skate in the shadow of a royal residence at Hampton Court Palace’s rink, pairing a lap of the ice with lunch in one of the historic pubs hidden among the leafy suburbs. Just off Oxford Street, Skate West End in Hanover Square is probably London’s most central rink this winter. Best of all, a percentage of every ticket sold is donated directly to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
