Stanhill Farm, Kent

In and among the rainbow array of fruit and vegetables that this sibling-run farm grows, an impressive crop of pumpkins is ripe for the picking in October. For £37 you can fill your boots (or, more aptly, your wheelbarrow) with as many of the various shaped and sized squashes as you please, or if you’re keeping your Halloween party more intimate this year, you can just pay-per-piece for the vegetables you decide to take home. Though, as the farm itself spans 150 acres, we’d be surprised if you leave with less than a boot-full of produce. It’s worth noting that tickets are best booked beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Foxes Farm, Basildon & Colchester

With two locations (one in Basildon and one in Colchester), both of the Foxes Farm Produce outlets are open throughout October and half-term. Of course, there will be the usual pick-your-own pumpkins on offer. But the family-run farms (where, spoiler alert, you can also pick up a Christmas tree when the time comes) have taken the squash shindig to even loftier heights by opening a licensed bar, picnic clearing, a five-acre corn maze, and a ‘field of fun’ packed with football goals, a giant sandpit, hula hoops and more.
