Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is the most visited city in the world so far this year, with around 22 million international arrivals, according to a survey by the Travelness travel blog. More detailed data reveal tourist patterns, such as an average stay of 4.7 nights and an average spend of US$173 per day.

Bangkok is more affordable than other cities in the top 20 and is well-known for its colourful street life, food and cultural wonders, such as the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. The city has something for everyone, from high end shopping malls to low-cost street markets. Its bustling nightlife and street food are famous around the world and the city serves as a gateway to other parts of Thailand, such as the beaches of Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya.
Data collected by Hong Kong based Klook Travel also shows a 1,200% rise in the number of foreign tourists booking activities in Thailand through its platform during the first five months of 2023, compared to the same period last year.
Tourists from Hong Kong are the most likely to sign up for activities in Thailand, followed by those from Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia. Day trips, sightseeing and spas are the most popular activities.
