Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss Universe 2017 during the 66th annual competition on Sunday, November 26, 2017. 92 women from around the world participated for a chance to win the crown at the Axis inside Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters recently earned her degree in Business Management from North West University. She will take over the duties for Miss Universe 2016, Iris Mittenaere, from France.

The top five South Africa, Venezuela, Thailand, Jamaica and Colombia were asked about a variety of topics, from sexual harassment to the impact of social media. Miss Jamaica was second runner-up and Miss Columbia was runner-up.
